Make your Own Onion Rings

Onion Rings

Ingredients: 1 onion (cut into 1/4 inch slices) 1 egg 1 1/4 cup of four 1 cup of milk 3/4 cup of bread crumbs 1 tsp of baking powder 1 tsp of salt oil for frying salt and pepper

Directions: Heat the oil to 365 degrees F (for best results, use about 1 quart of oil in a deep fryer). Pull the onion slices apart to separate the rings. Set them aside while you prepare the batter. In a bowl, combine the flour, salt, and baking powder. Roll each ring in the flour mixture to coat well, then set aside. Add the milk and egg to the flour mixture and stir well. Dip the rings into the batter until they are well coated. Place the onion rings on a rack or other surface on which the excess batter can be drained away. Put a few rings at a time in the deep fryer for about 3 minutes (or until they appear golden brown). Set on paper towels to drain excess grease. Season with salt and pepper, then serve.
